If you’ve been a fan of the label for a while, you may remember the original 4 Points series from 2008. The idea was simple: take four great artists from different parts of the world and present their music as a cohesive celebration of international artistry. Nine years later, 4 Points is back, at a time when acknowledging the multicultural facets of house and techno seems more important than ever.
Representing Northern Ireland and kicking things off is Loco & Jam, with an epic remix of Sharam & Chance Caspian’s ‘Morning Glory.’ Their spin on the tune from Sharam’s Retroactive album, is classic Loco & Jam – they take the original vocal and synth riffs and space them out over thundering percussion, creating a sinister techno track that pairs well with what follows it, Belocca’s ‘Secrets of the Moon.’ The Hungarian artist is well-known as prolific and talented producer, and his contribution to this release solidifies the reputation. Belocca brings together rough, syncopated rhythms and beautiful, dark melodies, resulting in a peak-time track that builds and releases with the energy of a cannon.
Next up is UK newcomer Kellie Allen, who has been consistently building her name on the Ibiza circuit. ‘James Brown’ has become one of Sharam’s recent favorites, pairing an infectious tech house groove an odd, spacey, but altogether memorable synth hook that catches the attention of clubbers immediately and without fail. Last but certainly not least, New Yorkers Sleepy & Boo continue their upwards rise in the global techno scene with ‘Law Of One,’ a dub-influenced house track that takes the sounds of 60’s Jamaica and fuses them with rolling, club-focused grooves.
