DJ Cream has enjoyed a solid if not sensational start to his recording career, releasing a smattering of well received but often overlooked EPs for a range of underground labels. Helpfully, this release for long-serving Parisian imprint Robsoul Recordings will raise his profile further. We’re particularly enjoying the rubbery but bumping bounce of opener “Down With The Bass”, where cut-up vocal samples cluster around crunchy drums and an addictive analogue bassline, though the P-funk-inspired deep house wiggle of “The Beauty and the Beat” is also a restless, floor-filling treat. Elsewhere, “Deep Sight” sees Cream confidently join the dots between Dance Mania style ghetto-house and Chez Damier style deepness, while “Mad Filter” is a swinging, funk-fuelled rub rich in hazy deep house chords and squelchy bass.
