Singapore label Midnight Shift follows the recent release from Xhin with a club-friendly EP courtesy of Kirk Degiorgio. The veteran UK producer has been focusing on harder-edged techno for the past few years and 002 shows that he is one of the sound’s most articulate practitioners. “The Nearness of Flames” revolves around a tough rhythm track and relentless drums, while cold bleeps course and ebb through the arrangement. The aptly named “Acid Symphony” sees Degiorgio lay down a bleeding, gurgling cacophony of 303s. Meanwhile the remix of the same track calls to mind his own musical past, with John Beltran providing a lush, atmospheric version.
