Aleksi Perala uses a microtonal tuning method known as Colundi – a sequence which his work is now synonymous with, and that he has dedicated 16 volumes of music to thus far. The Finnish sound scientist guides us through a ritualistic journey here, with ten formidable tracks for his new epic entitled ‘Paradox’. A master of hypnotic techno, much in the same vein as fellow Finnish innovators like Mika Vainio and Ilpo Vaisanen, prepare for an epic sonic trip here. Given the complex and cryptic title names, it may be a bit difficult to specify particular references throughout this album: but we can assure you it’s tremendous in its varied style throughout. Techno styles (both retro and innovative all the same), some homage to classic electro aesthetics, through to unmistakeable Finnish sonar bleeps of the most entrancing kind. Coming in right at the end of 2017, it is easily one of the year’s best albums. This follows up some great releases by Perala recently on Clone Basement Series, Len Faki’s LF RMX and of course his own AP Musik.
