The Drumcode Collection launches this year to celebrate the label’s consistently outstanding output, highlighting some of the finest releases in the DC back catalogue, which deserve an extra chance to shine. ‘Aurora’ kicks off the first edition, a 10-track compilation celebrating all the preeminent female artists who’ve made music for the imprint. It hits hard from the get-go with Amelie Lens’ piercing acid masterpiece ‘In Silence’, before fiery contributions from Ida Engberg, ANNA, BEC and Charlotte de Witte follow. Juliet Fox’s ‘Was Beautiful’ signals a shimmering change of gear and precedes powerful and uplifting cuts from Nicole Moudaber, B.Traits and newcomer Shelley Johannson, who all add their touch. Enberg’s ‘Junoverse’ ends proceedings on a trippy after-hours note, reinforcing the breadth of the Drumcode sound.

REVIEW
Aurora is a 10 song compilation of techno hits from some of the greatest heavyweights of the genre we know. We see its release on Drumcode. According to their socials, this marks the kick-off of a new DC collection series.

Here is a little review of each song so as to give you some insight before listening.
‘In Silence‘ by Amelie Lens came out in 2017. It is a track full of heart-throbbing bass. An electrifying production, it sets the tone for a dark, dance floor. Carrying energy throughout the entire piece, let’s get it on.

Next, we have ‘Lucky Ones‘ by Ida Engberg. She delivers her unique techno style here with old rave sounds. Her huge hoover sounding synths drive the track forward and keep any dancefloor grooving.

‘Galactic Highways‘ by ANNA released last year and deserves a spot on this album. Its striking riffs create a pinnacle sound, coupled with the bombastic drums. She certainly brings out the fiend in the genre.

Featured on A-Sides Vol. 8 of DC211 is ‘Hypersphere‘ by BEC. Making its way into a new series, this track is rich and a beautiful journey.

‘Remember‘ by Charlotte de Witte debuted on A-Sides Vol 7. Even more, our beloved Belgian unlocked an acid techno club bomb. Full of drum machine samples and hypnotism, she is a legend among us.

Juliet Fox used her own vocals in ‘Was Beautiful‘. Her influences come from Chicago house and Detroit techno. The raw, hijacking underground vibes combined with this sweet melody is powerful.

Nicole Moudaber’s ‘This Is Us‘ is cavernous with an unrelenting drum pattern. Chord progressions and airy kicks propel the piece forward. Some even say this is a certified DC anthem.

Brianna Price, aka B. Traits, came up with ‘I Feel the Music‘ in a dream. It is now a big room, percussive techno cut. Make no mistake, this will ravage any club.

As a young gun to the label, Shelley Johannson presents ‘Raze‘. This flows like the beat of a heart, a solid drum groove, and her emotionally-driven sound palette. Additionally, pieces of old school rave sounds appear in the background. But it is all beyond a night club.

Lastly, ‘Junoverse‘ by Ida Engberg closes up the compilation. Wicked, groovy, and unique with distorted percussion. Therefore, this is a good one.
